Maddy Glenn

Maddy grew up in small villages in East Sussex, surrounded by the countryside.

She sang in classical, carol, and barbershop choirs from the age of 4. Having very musical parents, she grew up surrounded by the sounds of Tchaikovsky and Chopin, Ella Fitzgerald and Eva Cassidy, and bands such as The Beatles, David Bowie, and Led Zeppelin. A musical education was very important to her parents.

Despite her very musical upbringing, it took her 18 years to really discover folk music. Having gone to see Bob Dylan at a music festival, she subsequently discovered Bellowhead and it all followed from there.

In early 2013, she visited Sheffield to attend the Soundpost Weekend in Dungworth. She fell in love with Sheffield that weekend and decided she would live there one day.

In September 2013 she joined the University of Reading as a Philosophy and English Literature student. When Maddy and Simon met, it had been a few years since Maddy had performed on stage. Her musical life soon picked up again as Loreley formed and she frequented all of the local folk clubs.

Maddy is currently living in Sheffield, while running two blogs, and writing a fantasy novel (a project of hers that has been running for 5 years!).

What I'm currently listening to:

Nancy Kerr, Sam Philips, Kate Rusby, Bellowhead, Taylor Swift, Fay Hield, Craobh Rua, The Ryan O'Reilly Band, Blair Dunlop, The Lumineers.
